It's that time of the year when we can have enough daylight to do the Iron Butt Association ride for our certificates, license plate backers and pins. Last year we had 40+ members ride as either a witness or qualify for the first time.

I'll be riding along as a witness this year to verify everybody makes the event. Others that have already qualified can come along as witnesses (no fee, but does not go in the official IBA file - if you're already in there, it doesn't really matter...once you're in "The Book of Life", you're in there forever.

The ride will start gassed up, with kickstands up and rolling at 5:15am from Starbucks at Northgate next to McDonalds and the I-5 onramp.

I will be taking all names, photos, mileage, odometer readings, etc. Everybody must be responsible for keeping ALL of their gas receipts and turning them in to me. Bring a sealable envelope to place all of your receipts with your name & return address on it at the end of the ride. You'll need to make sure you have the beginning receipt and the gas station in Drummond MT receipt. Those will be sent in. The rest of the receipts will be kept on file in case they audit.

The fee is $42 and includes the certification, licence plate backer, a SaddleSore 1000 pin and IBA Sticker, or $34 for the certificate only.

Ride difficulty: EXTREME!

Iron Butt is a rite of passage for the hard core motorcyclist. This is a test of your endurance, machine and beating the clock.

There will be few comfort breaks, gas stops only as needed and a very short lunch/dinner break. You can expect to be on your machine for at least 17 hours.

Riding with the group gives safety in case of any serious issues (crashes, etc), but if you or your bike can't make the ride for whatever reason, you'll pretty much be on your own for getting your bike out and back home, as everybody on this ride is trying to qualify within a timeframe.

We will break the ride up into groups based on the fuel range of their motorcycles. This will help ease congestion at the gas stations as well as allowing riders to 'do their own ride' with other members that have the same fuel range. I'll wait at the final fueling station 60-90 min (Issaquah) for those arriving later than the group I'll be leading. Please post your fuel range when you RSVP so I can get an idea of who can lead which group. Below is the ride route as well as the fuel stations between here and Drummond MT.

We'll stop for lunch at Famous Dave's (http://www.famousdaves.com/Missoula) in Missoula. They were able to get a large group of hungry bikers fed right away last time, so we should be back on the road within 45 min.
