The NYC Bipolar Meetup Group Pages

Good day and welcome to the NYC Bipolar Meetup Group.

The purpose of this group is to create an opportunity for people who deal with Bipolar, or any other mood disorder, either directly or indirectly, to meet in a friendly, social environment. This is not a support group. This is simply an opportunity to meet fellow New Yorkers who face the extraordinary challenge of dealing with mental illness in a very crazy world. To this end, I playfully call members "Merry Lunatics".

There is a tremendous stigma attached to being diagnosed Bipolar. For many, there is really no one to talk to about what this means on a daily basis, and what this implies for the rest of one's life. There is very little that is genuinely understood about the "disorder" by Western medicine, although American doctors are very quick to prescribe medications and treatments without fully informing patients. In this way, this group is an opportunity to find friends, laughter, information, and a clear sense of not having to deal with the weight of mental illness alone.

I encourage everyone to attend the Meetups, and at minimum to please RSVP (even to say NO). Also, please post photos and greetings of some kind on your profile. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to post on the message board or to contact the organizer by e-mail. Otherwise, welcome to this collective of Merry Lunatics and remember to ask for us by name.

With love and light,
Tentetsu of NYC

All links in emails must be ok'd by me prior to posting, due to risk of spy ware and virus.

There is very little one can do to be banned from this meetup group. That said, things that will lead to immediate banning are:

Threats of physical violence

Divulging other people's personal information

Continuing to discuss a topic on the message board after being asked to stop by me or an assistant organizer.

We are all aware that at times we are in better places than others with our illness. But we must remember to respect each other at all times.

Thank you so much,

Barton.
