First Chinese Food for Bitcoins at Old Ginger

In case you didn't already hear, Old Ginger is now the first Chinese restaurant in Canada to accept Bitcoin! So we're going to celebrate, of course! Old Ginger has an accommodating owner who has stocked his fridge full of beer for us to relax in a casual environment, and (if it's rolled out in time) he will be using an open source payment system developed by our very own Bitcoin Cooperative. They also have an awesome robot that makes the noodles! This restaurant is part of a chain, so if we show them Bitcoin means business, Bitcoin may spread!

Those of you without enough satoshis may still order using cash, debit or credit, but the topic of today will definitely be Bitcoin! Do you have any bitcoins? How did you make them? What do you like about Bitcoin, and how far do you see bitcoins spreading further down the road? We can discuss ideas for the future, for both our Meet Up and the currency revolution, and the tech-savvy can share their projects and thoughts. It will be a fun night shared among like-minded individuals!

There will be NO automatic gratuity tonight, so PLEASE remember to tip your waiter or waitress if you had a good time. As usual, you must be at least 19 years old or older to attend. If you intend to order drinks, please remember that you need two valid pieces of identification, and that at least one of your IDs must show your photo. If on the day of the event you have any problems (lost, can't get in), feel free to text me at 778.918.7156.

Not a bad meetup place. Food is okay and cheap.

However, it was quite crowded today and it showed - having one waiter for the whole meetup doesn't appear to be enough. The restaurant itself is also a squeeze. Maybe if we joined all the middle tables into one long table it would be better for a meetup?

A big thanks for Mike Yeung and the SFU Bitcoin Club for convincing this fine venue! You are a valuable part of the Bitcoin Cooperative, and the Vancouver Bitcoin community. Help us spread the word on Facebook at

Also, SFU Club executive Jeff Chen--the owner of this venue was a friend of his.
