Our Movement and it's journey in time...
1950 - 1940: Kenneth and Mamie Clark, use dolls to study black children's attitudes about their race. Doll Test result in Supreme Court Case of 'Brown v. Board of Education' ruling that racial segregation in public schools was unconstitutional.
May 1, 1971: Dana Hill, the Founder of the Black Doll Affair is born - http://www.danahill.info
May 2007: Kiri Davis goes on the Oprah show with her girl like me documentary, inspired by Kiri's appearance, Dana Hill created The Black Doll Affair. Jan. 2008 Barack Obama wins the primaries and becomes the first black official canidate for the Democratic Party. November 2008 - Barack Obama is elected President of the United States of America!
August 2009: After protests from black dolls everywhere, Costco pulls their offensive Lil' Black Monkey Doll from its stores. September 2009: Black Doll's are invited to the White House! Mattel launched So In Style(S.I.S.), a new line of black dolls featuring fuller lips, a wider nose, distinctive cheek bones and curlier hair. S.I.S. was developed and inspired by Barbie designer of 12 years, Stacey McBride-Irby, an African-American!
September 2009 - The Black Dolls are Invited to the White House!
November 2009: Mattel's 'So In Style' Black Barbie Doll designer, Stacey McBride-Irby, joins the Black Doll Affair and becomes its 'Honorary Black Doll.' Also, for their efforts to remind a black girl of her beauty, Margaret Kaiser of the Georgia House of Representatives, District 59, Honors Dana Hill and the Black Dolls with a proclamation resolution!
December 2009: Black Doll Affair turns three! Congressman John Lewis and Mayor of Atlanta to sign a 'Black Doll Day Affair' Proclamation. Disney introduces the world to Tiana, the first Black Princess in the animated fairy tale legacy.
February 2010: House of Representatives to proclaim Black Doll Affair Day!
