Wilderness First Aid at AMC's Mohican Center in the Delaware Water Gap
I am signed up to take this weekend wilderness first aid course. The complete course description is below. This is an ideal course for anyone who participates in outdoor activities, especially those who lead activities, or would like to lead activities. The plan is to drive out Friday after work and drive back Sunday after the course is complete. I will have room for 5 people in my car, including myself.
Please note that lodging and meals are included in the registration fee. The registration fee is $267 AMC members/$320 non-members. To register you must call the AMC registration phone number: 603-466-2727 (best time to call: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon.-Sat.). There is no web registration. When you sign up on the Meetup site, you wil be placed on a waiting list until you have registered for the course with AMC. Hope to see you there. Should be a valuable learing experience, in a beautiful, natural setting.
This course will teach you how to deal with common medical incidents and accidents that occur in the backcountry. It stresses safety, preparation, crisis avoidance, the treatment of problems such as blisters, sprains, hypothermia, heat disorders, protection from the elements, and more. It does not go into the depth that the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course does; however it does provide an important level of understanding about recognizing and treating medical emergencies or injuries. It also discusses long-term patient care, a reality of backcountry travel. WFA is a 16-hour course and can be used to re-certify WFR level of training. CPR certification can be obtained for $35 during the course. Let the Outdoor Education Coordinator know if you desire this training prior to course start date. Questions about Mohican call 908-362-5670. Questions about the program contact SOLO 603-447-6711.
