The Ruby Hangout

From: Joshua S.

Hey all,

I mentioned this at our last meetup, and as promised, here's an email to the group with more information.

JP and I are starting a new meetup called The Ruby Hangout. This is a completely virtual meetup taking place on Google Plus's Hangouts. Google recently added a feature called G+ Hangouts On Air, which allows us to broadcast our meetup via YouTube. I've written a blog post with lots more information about how this will work (technically and socially) at We think there's a real need for a virtual ruby community, to be able to engage people who are either not near a meetup group or who can't make it to an event for whatever reason.

Our first meetup will be next Wednesday, October 3rd, at 7:00pm Eastern. Our presenters will be Chad Fowler and Evan Light. We'll be interviewing Chad and Evan will be giving a talk titled "Frustration Driven Development". We'll be taking questions from the YouTube comments and asking them of the presenters for the Q&A portions. Also after the presentations we'll break out into "drink-up" hangouts to chat and, yes, hang out.

We're excited about our new community, and we hope you'll become a part of it! Tune into our twitter account @rubyhangout, watch our blog,, or follow us on G+ for the links to our broadcast when we start. We also have a Google Group for longer-term discussions.

Hope to see you next Wednesday!
