Announcing a new Meetup for The Campbell Boardgames Meetup Group!
What: Texas Hold'em For Beginners Only
When: January 23, 2010 12:00 PM
1310 Saddle Rack
San Jose, CA 95126
Poker is truly a great game. However, it can be expensive to learn, as you watch other players walk off with your hard-earned cash. This event will be a combination of a poker class and a tournament-style Texas Hold'em game. No money will exchange hands as we will play only for points and bragging rights.
We'll learn the correct way of communicating with the other players by calling out bets, raises, calls, checks, and folds. We'll learn some of the lingo you hear on the World Poker Tour: all in, under the gun, nut flush draw, etc. And, we'll learn the tournament structure of how to raise the blinds, move the blinds, handle blinds when one person is elimated, and even what these "big blinds" and "little blinds" are, and why they're important to the game. And, finally, we'll learn how not to incur penalties in an official tournament by making bad bets, chain bets, or revealing cards improperly.
Space is limited. So, if you RSVP 'Yes,' be sure you will be able to attend and arrive on time. Arrive time is 12:noon with with the tournament style instruction starting promptly as 12:15. The clubhouse is reserved until 6:pm.
We will be running 2 tables of 8 players each. The first table will be for those who have little to no experience playing Texas Hold'em. I will teach a class, complete with handouts and cheat sheets. The second table will be for those who have had this class previously, or are perhaps familiar with hold'em or poker games in general.
This is a "healthy" potluck event. I will provide soda, water, plates, napkins, and untensils. There is a microwave, stove, and refridgerator available. Please, bring an entre or side-dish, and avoid bringing chips or desserts if you can.
Parking is located 1 block away at the industrial complex near 400 Race Street, while the clubhouse is located at 1310 Saddle Rack. Plan on parking in the industrial complex or on the street. Do NOT park in the guest parking near the clubhouse or at other businesses as towing is very aggressive in this area.
