A little while back there was a small filler discussion. Because I am bored (erasing backup tapes) I thought I would post my thoughts on fillers.

To me a filler is just that -- something that fills time. The game could be light or heavy (tho by nature I think most fillers are light). Most importantly it has to be short. At the MOST 30 minutes. Some examples of games in my collection that I consider fillers:

Short Fillers
========
For Sale 15 minutes 3-6 players
IceTowers 5 minutes 3-? players
Zendo would also qualify here as 1 round of Zendo rarely lasts longer than 10 minutes

Medium Fillers
==========
Guillotine 20 minutes 2-5 players
Hex Hex 20 minutes 3-6 players (This is assuming you limit it to 1 round of play)

Long Fillers
=========
Too Many Cooks 30 minutes 2-5 players (this one might be pushing it with more than 3 people)

What fillers do you have in your collection?

LOL You are bored aren't you!

I didn't know there was more than one round of Hex,Hex since everytime I have been in a group to play it, we do 1 or two hands and we stop. I know playing Isaac may have had something to do with that or did Isaac win in two hands.
It was over so fast I was still trying to figure out how to play.

I will have to check out my bits and see what would be a filler of 30 minutes and less.

I'll let you know.

Raj comes to mind, the one that Ruth you and I played while we were waiting for the other group to finish something. A round is like 2 minutes, and you can play several. Truly a filler.

Bluff (Liar's Dice or whatever) is good as a filler, too. But only with like 4 or less. Otherwise it gets long.

I think of High Society as a filler, but I suppose you could argue it's a full blown game.

And of course, there's Pico 2. What a neat little game.

It's a cool little bluffing overthinking and outsmarting yourself card game for 2. It's something of a glorified rock-paper-scissors, but its fun and different. A friend and I played this for about an hour one night at happy hour and actually drew a couple of onlookers. I felt like I was on ESPN8 (The Ocho). Here's a link.
