New Meetup: The July Post-Apocalyptic Book Discussion: J.G. Ballard's The Drought

Announcing a new Meetup for The Freebird Brooklyn Post-Apocalyptic Book Club Meetup!

What: The July Post-Apocalyptic Book Discussion: J.G. Ballard's The Drought

When: Thursday, July 22,[masked]:30 PM

Freebird Books
123 Columbia St
Brooklyn, NY 11231

We will skip June (Freebird's Thursdays will be taken up by a waterfront film series) and focus on July's selection, J.G. Ballard's 1965 novel The Drought. In the future water is a luxury of the past. Radioactive waste from years of industrial dumping has caused the sea to form a protective skin strong enough to devastate the Earth it once sustained. And while the remorseless sun beats down on the dying land, civilization itself begins to crack. Violence erupts and insanity reigns as the remnants of mankind struggle for survival in a worldwide desert of despair. The Sunday (London) Times called it "weird...grotesque...magnificently Gothic."

NOTE: Let us know if you have difficulty finding the book (it is out of print in the U.S.). We have a supply of the British edition.
