January Meetup: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

The $5 fee goes to Time Tested Books for letting us use their great space.

For January we will be reading a book suggested by one of our members: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.

Book description:  On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick Dunne's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick Dunne isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife's head, but hearing from Amy through flashbacks in her diary reveal the perky perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer? As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister Margo at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn't do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was left in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?

Please arrive between 6:30 and 7 so that you can browse and shop in the store - Time Tested has a lot of great new and used books! - and get situated. The meeting discussion will begin at 7.

Reminder: Time Tested is happy to order a book for you if they don't have it on the shelves - and it's easy! Just call or stop by... they put in orders on Tuesdays and it is often available that Thursday. Be sure to let them know you are with the Sacramento Women's Book Club.

Please bring a dish to share with the group (whatever you like!). Thanks!

Hi, I was wondering about bringing wine and maybe sparkling cider? I will just be getting off work before the meeting and I only found out this morning that I made it off the wait list, lol. Haven't attended a book club before so I'm not sure if wine is allowed or if someone else is already bringing drinks! Thanks and looking forward to meeting everyone.

    Hi Everyone,
If anyone cares to hear even more about the book, I noticed a podcast about Gone Girl on the website Slate. I haven't listened to this or read the book yet, but I've listened to other episodes and have found them interesting.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
