Meetup with visiting author

Since bookcrossers like to read as well as exchange books, I thought I'd forward this email from the Union Square Reading Group.  A new U.K. author is coming to the U.S. to create a buzz before her book is released here and her publisher, Henry Holt, is sponsoring a Meetup in February (either 4th or 5th, date not yet decided) so people can meet her.  Anyone who wants to attend the Meetup can get a free copy of the book by emailing his or her address to Henry Holt through the Union Square Reading Group site.  A blurb about the book follows below.

Subject: [bookclub-183] New Event: Catherine O'Flynn's What Was Lost

Announcing a new event for Union Square Reading Group!

What: Catherine O'Flynn's What Was Lost

When: Monday, February 4, 7:00 PM

Where: (A location for this event hasn't been chosen yet)

Event Description: So ... do you wonder how many people would come to one of these things if we didn't have a limit? For our Henry Holt sponsored "What was Lost" meetup, they'll be handling the lion's share of the logistics, so let's go to town. It'll be either on February Fourth or Fifth, depending on what the January attendees decide.

Once your RSVPd 'Yes' here, email Richard Rhorer at Henry Holt with your mailing address and he'll send you the book. It'll take a few days to get to you, and it'll take you a little while to read it, so I'll close the Meetup to new RSVPs probably two weeks before.

Here's the blurb from the Henry Holt site:
In the 1980s, Kate Meaney--'Top Secret' notebook and toy monkey Mickey in tow--is hard at work as a junior detective. Busy trailing 'suspects' and carefully observing everything around her at the newly opened Green Oaks shopping mall, she forms an unlikely friendship with Adrian, the son of a local shopkeeper. But when this curious, independent-spirited young girl disappears, Adrian falls under suspicion and is hounded out of his home by the press. Then, in 2004, Adrian's sister Lisa--stuck in a dead-end relationship--is working as a deputy manager at Your Music, a discount record store. Every day she tears her hair out at the outrageous behavior of her customers and colleagues. But together with a security guard, Kurt, she becomes entranced by the little girl glimpsed on the mall's surveillance cameras. WHAT WAS LOST, which has been longlisted for The Orange Prize, The Man Booker Prize, and the Guardian First Book Award in the UK, is a haunting debut from an incredible new talent. Catherine O'Flynn was born in Birmingham in 1970, where she grew up in and around her parents? candy store. She has been a teacher, web editor, and mystery customer--and this, her first novel, draws on her experience of working in record stores. After spending several years in Barcelona, she now lives in Birmingham
