The Hunt for Silk Road’s Masters - When Deep Web turns to Murder!

A story that involves Deep Web, Bitcoin, TOR, deception, betrayal, multiple murders for hires and how a simple online slip-up may have ended one of the most profitable underground sites in history. This presentation will outline the government’s hunt for the people behind Silk Road. This evening will start with a 30 minute primer to introduce Bitcoin and how it compares to other currencies and then the main presentation “The Hunt for Silk Road’s Masters”.

Wow I bet the defense wished they had this info before the trial. An unbelievable level of misconduct, selling info to DPR, blackmailing DPR etc...

The presentation on how Ross Ulbright was caught, was very informative and process-driven.

Paul Bowen's presentation was positively fascinating. He should employ his deep research and be the first one out with the book "Murder on the Silk Road". If time constrains him, perhaps he might find volunteers to assist among his band of followers.

Thanks Joe. It is a great story, a young idealistic man changes to a murderer as he builds his underground drug market using many IT security tools, tricks and techniques only to have a simple mistake and his own arrogance do him in. I can't write anything more interesting than reports these days but if anyone who can write is interested I am game.

I thought I would share some numbers as well. 74 people showed of 97 people who RSVP'd yes. Security at the front desk gave out approximately 50 preprinted badges and wrote visitor badges for approximately 25 people.

Someone had asked about the 18% figure. Here is a story about it and the figures came from the journal Addiction http://arstechnica.com/business/2013/12/an-estimated-18-percent-of-americans-used-drugs-from-silk-road-says-study/

Very good meeting. I enjoyed the talk that Paul gave, it was interesting to hear about the thought process behind tracking down the potential creator of Silk Road.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
