Windows Azure Mobile Services + Azure in the Real World

We have two great Windows Azure talks for Nov 15: Windows Azure Mobile Services (John Garland) & Real World Azure (Bob Goodearl).

First, Bob Goodearl will give a behind-the-scenes look at how Windows Azure was used for the web site for Boston Code Camp #18. This is a great opportunity to see how some of the Windows Azure features - like Windows Azure Web Sites, Windows Azure Cloud Services, Access Control Service, SQL Azure, Blob Storage, and Windows Azure Diagnostics - were used to realize a real web application.

Next, John Garland (senior consultant at Wintellect and mobile nerd) will introduce Windows Azure Mobile Services (WAMS). WAMS is amazing in its simplicity for building a back-end to your mobile applications - whether Windows Phone, iOS, and (soon) Android. The programming model is unique, and it has an extra coolness factor by being implemented using Node.js (so you get to write server-side code in javascript).

We also may have another cool surprise.

  • 6:00-6:25 - Gather, have some pizza, socialize
  • 6:25-6:30 - Call to order, grab a seat
  • 6:30-7:00 - Bob Goodearl's talk
  • 7:00-8:20 - John Garland's talk
  • 8:20-8:30 - Giveaways, announcements
  • 8:30-?:00 - Grab a cold beverage nearby

John Garland did a great job laying out both the "why" and the "how" for Mobile Services. His impromptu Windows Phone 8 talk also made the meeting more valuable (planned opening speaker was not able to make it due to illness).

Thanks to John Garland (@dotnetgator) for both the Windows Azure Mobile Services talk and the last-minute lightning-talk on what's new in mobile on Windows Phone 8. Thanks also to Lance McCarthy (@lancewmccarthy) for the info (and incentives) for building Win Phone apps. Jim O'Neil also offered some info on resources for getting started building apps, especially around Windows 8. The links for all the speakers are provided in the next comment.

Is it possible to attend online?

Unfortunately there is no way to attend online. We've thought about it in the past, but have not figured out a good way to pull it off. Sorry.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
