Abstract:
OpenRefine (ex-Google Refine) is a free, open source, power tool for working with messy data. It provides an easy to use graphical interface with instant preview of transformation, unlimited undo, and faceted browsing of wide variety of tabular and tree shaped data formats including CSV, Excel, JSON, XML, Google Spreadsheets & Fusion Tables, and many more. It also provides facilities to reconcile/match with standard data sources such as Freebase and DBpedia, then use them to extend the dataset with additional columns.
Tom will present an overview of Refine as well as offer a sneak peak at the brand new beta of OpenRefine 2.6.
About Tom:
Tom Morris is the project lead for OpenRefine and an independent consultant with a diverse skill set in software engineering and product management. He's led product teams in four different countries and has a long history of contributions to open source projects. Data wrangling and analysis is one of his primary areas of focus currently.

Good talk, thanks! I'm going to see if I can use it with data from HPC jobs and then recommend it for use by our users.
Thanks.

You snooze you lose, I see the session is filled. I hope there will be a handout or other materials that might be able to be shared with the rest of us, thanks!

Bring your troublesome data sets (or send me a pointer ahead of time). Happy to work with attendee-provided data for examples or Q&A.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.

OpenRefine was awesome!
I didn't get to speak to some of you who were looking to hire Javascript devs. If you still are, please reach out to me - I'm considering new opportunities.
Looking forward to next meetup!
