Solr + Hadoop = Big Data Search

  • Jul 11, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Apache Lucene/Solr committer Mark Miller talks about how Solr has been integrated into the Hadoop ecosystem to provide full text search at "big data" scale. This talk will give an overview of how Cloudera has tackled integrating Solr into the Hadoop ecosystem and highlights some of the design decisions and future plans. Learn how Solr is going to get closer to Hadoop, which contributions are going to what project, and how you should consider tackling search at Hadoop scale in the future. Scaling Solr has never been easier.

Mark Miller is a Lucene/Solr committer and PMC member as well as an Apache member. After starting with Lucene in 2006, Mark has spent most his time getting paid to work on the open source software projects that he loves. Mark has given many talks on Lucene/Solr at various conferences and meetups around the world and is currently learning all about Hadoop as a software engineer at Cloudera.

Looking forward to seeing the slides. Anyone know when they'll be posted?

Mark was excellent. Content was great. Learned a great deal. I prefer food to be available at the beginning, rather than in the middle of the presentation.

This talk was good. It might have benefited from a high-level intro to start, perhaps a short demo of Solr in action. But basically it was good. One overall suggestion... NAME TAGS at every event. We all want to network and meet other big data people. Name tags would be very helpful with this.

Hi! Could you , please, post a schedule for this meetup? Last meeting, the presentation did not start until very late, and once it did about 30 min were spent answering random questions from the audience before the presentation really started. It is great to have q&A, however, for the benefit of the majority of the audience it is usually placed at the end, to allow those people who are pressed for time to make plans accordingly.
    Thanks!

A request for this talk, and all other talks at hack/reduce... The audience at these events is quite technical, so the talk should be as well. Of course, it is good to start every talk with some general info and background, but then we would like to hear some real detail.
