Are you looking for volunteer opportunities that are both fun and rewarding? A small non-profit agency working with adults with developmental disabilities is seeking volunteers to take part in our recreational activities and interact with our clients. Activities include: bingo, bowling, swimming, arts and crafts, knitting, video games, karaoke, field trips, group dinner at restaurant, and more--all expenses paid!
At Bridges to Independence, we do not view recreational activities volunteers only as staff's assistants. One of the most important roles for our volunteers is to be peers from the wider society to our clients as a step toward their inclusion and integration into the mainstream of the society. Rec Program Volunteers develop relationships with our clients that are distinct from those between a social worker and a client.
Please note that a criminal background check is required before someone can become a volunteer, as we work with a vulnerable population (criminal record does not necessarily disqualify someone; please be upfront and discuss your situation with us). Also, most of our activities take place during the week in the afternoon. For more information about our agency and its programs, please see http://www.bridgestoindependence.org/
This group will send notifications about major activities. For the listing of all activities in which you could volunteer, please see our website at http://www.bridgestoindependence.org/calendar/![]()
Please feel free to email us for questions or comments at volunteer@bridgestoindependence.org
In November, we are holding Volunteer Thank-You Party in lieu of an usual volunteer orientation. This is our annual party to appreciate our volunteers, and honor their contribution to Bridges to Independence. We plan on serving spaghetti with (or without) meatballs, and cheesecakes (cheesecake is not in the pasta, just in case you were wondering).
It's not too late to become a volunteer in time to be appreciated! Read more
