New Meetup: Willamette Pass Gondola / Rosary Lakes

Announcing a new Meetup for Eugene Hiking & Camping Meetup Group!

What: Willamette Pass Gondola / Rosary Lakes

When: August 9,[masked]:00 AM

Albertsons @ Hilyard & E 30th
3075 Hilyard St
Eugene, OR 97405

This trip starts with a ride on the ski lift summer gondola ($14 adults / $8 children / $2 dogs). We'll then hike 6 miles (all downhill!!!) on the Pacific Crest trail past the 3 beautiful Rosary Lakes and back to the ski lodge. I hiked this area on snowshoes, and it was one of the best trips I've ever done. Bring lunch to eat at the Lower Rosary Lake, and maybe a bathing suit if you like really cold water. There's a fisherman's trail around the lake we can explore too.

There are a number of options you can do, including skipping the gondola and hiking up the PCT (600 feet gain) and meeting us at the lake. Some could also add 4 level miles to the hike and visit the Maiden Peak cabin (10 miles total). The lift ticket lasts all day, so we can also ride the gondola again, up and back, if there's time.

There might be some mosquitoes, but hopefully the recent heat wave did them in.

We'll meet at the Northeast corner of the Albertson's parking lot at 9. The drive is about 65 miles up highway 58, so we should be there between 10:30 and 11. You can also meet us at Willamette Pass if that works.

I did a video of my snowshoe hike past the (frozen) Rosary Lakes:

I also rode the ski lift on a trip to Maiden Peak cabin: (pictures) (video)
