The Capitol Hill Energy Cooperative was formed in 2008 to address renewable energy and environmental issues that are of concern to neighbors in the Capitol Hill area of Washington, D.C.
We seek to reduce the carbon footprint of Capitol Hill residents by promoting and educating the community about sustainable energy choices.
The mission of the organization is tri-fold:
Self-education on green/energy issues
Promotion and facilitation of green/renewable energy projects/installations systems through negotiation of group discounts on bulk purchases and installations of green/renewable energy systems
Policy analysis and issues advocacy with the DC government to propose sustainable living solutions
The Coop meets on the second Wednesday of each month to discuss a variety of sustainable living topics, including:
Renewable energy
Food coop
Detoxifying houses and gardens
Recycling
Composting
Gray water lines
Rain barrels
Solar hot water heaters
Green roofs
Insulation
Car sharing
Skill swap/barter
