Drawing at the National Army Museum

Join us for a day of drawing and cartooning at the National Army Museum. Meet from 11am but you can join in at any time during the day. Please note my mobile will be off between 2 and 2.30 for the free talk.
Bringing along usual 'clean' art materials.

The museum is very well arranged over four floors, with life size recreations of scenes from battle zones over the ages. There is an art gallery on the top floor and a café as you enter.
There are also folding stools to carry round so ideal for sitting to sketch!

Launched in partnership with leading publisher, DC Thomson, this explosive display showcases key artwork and illustrations that draw on the 50 years of the 'Commando' series.

'Draw Your Weapons: The Art of Commando Comics' examines the history of the war comic from its initial conception, its heroic subject matter and its continuing popularity.

Central to the exhibition is the true-life inspiration behind the comics, the British Army Commandos. There are original artefacts, photographs and filmed interviews with two Second World War British Army Commandos. Londoners Freddie Walker and Stan Scott both served in No. 3 Commando and they provide vivid and insightful accounts of their missions in Dieppe, Sicily, Italy, Normandy, Holland and Germany.

Free War Horse Exhibition.

There is also a special exhibition worth seeing on the ground floor about the production of War Horse, based on the book by Michael Morpurgo which transferred to the West End from the National Theatre.
