Talk and presenter details
Bridging the gap between design & development
Designers and developers often have specific goals when creating interactive experiences. Because our creative processes overlap and influence one another, knowing each other's considerations is key to designing and implementing experiences that are both usable and performant. How can designers help developers? How can developers help designers? In this presentation, we will explore the communication and collaboration practices that help in this process.
Amanda Cheung (@acacheung) is the lead UX developer at DockYard (https://dockyard.com/). She is always trying to improve the designer-developer relationship. Passionate about accessibility and CSS architecture, Amanda is also an adjunct professor at MassArt and a teacher for Girl Develop It.

Data Visualization with Vega, Vega-Lite, and maybe just a little D3
Vega (https://vega.github.io/vega/)and Vega-Lite (https://vega.github.io/vega-lite/) are declarative formats for creating, saving, and sharing visualization designs. Visualizations are described in JSON, and generate interactive views using either HTML5 Canvas or SVG. We'll explore these tools and what it's like to develop visualizations using them. At the end we'll take a quick peak at D3, the powerful library Vega is built on.
Matt Shanley (@arkadyan) is a full-stack web developer at ActBlue (https://secure.actblue.com/), a non-profit, building fundraising technology for the left. He's also a multimedia artist whose range of practice includes sound, installation, public art, generative computer projects, video, internet art, and print.

CASCADE BOS is a community for tech-minded designers and design-savvy developers. We aim to be a community where members can learn from each other about ever-changing front-end technology and web design trends. CASCADE BOS is run by volunteers.
After Our June event, CASCADE BOS will take two month summer off and come back in September. If you would like to help organize this community next season, please let Daigo and Kianosh know!
