Just to let everyone know that I have contacted Dr. Katie Meier and she is
very pleased to do a Heart Clinic for us.
The clinic would be set on a weekend, probably in February or March, and
would be on a Sunday, as this is the best day to use the clinic
facilities. Dr. Meier proposes that she first give everyone an overview of
Mitral Valve disease in Cavaliers and other cardio issues that occur in this
breed. She would then do a heart check (auscultation) to determine if
there is a heart murmur and the degree of the murmur. The cost for the
clinic including the heart check would be $40/dog. If any dog required
additional tests or treatment, that would be the decision of the owner to
schedule at another time.
This is an excellent way to learn more about cardiac diseases that affect
99% of all Cavaliers. It's never good news to hear that your Cavalier has
a heart murmur but the sooner you know and can begin treatment will bring you a
longer life span and quality of life.
I will keep everyone posted as to the date, time etc. We will need to
have enough people sign up in advance to ensure this is worth Dr. Meier's
