Worley's Cave - Peccary Ave - Boy Scout Loop (D3)

Worley's Cave is a popular cave in Bluff City, TN.  It's about a 30 minute ride from JC.  This cave has 37,000+ feet of passages.  It is a wet cave.  Dress appropriately.  There is significant amount of climbing over and crawling under various areas.  Knee pads will not be mandatory, but are HIGHLY recommended.  You will regret it the next morning if you don't bring some.  Bring your camera!  There are TONS of incredible and active formations to be seen.  We will be taking a tour of Peccary Ave., climbing the Devil's Staircase, and returning via the river passage. (This is known as the Boy Scout Loop).  Expect to be in the cave for 3-4 hours.  Bring a bag lunch and a trash bag.  You can learn more about this cave by going to DISCUSSIONS ---> PLACES ---> WORLEY'S CAVE.

The owner does charge $5 admission so bring that in cash.

Hiking boots required.  No tennis shoes or open toed shoes allowed.  You MUST wear long pants.  No shorts allowed.  Bring a headlamp. For you own safety you will not be allowed to attend if you do not have a headlamp.  $12 @ Wal-Mart.  This is for your own good.  There will be many places where you will need both hands AND a light. If you do not have a head lamp, let us know in the comments below and we will provide one for you.  We have 6-8 headlamps and will happily provide them for the first 6-8 people to request one.

Helmet's are recommended.  A bicycle helmet works great.  Bring at least 32 oz of water.  This is an experience you won't soon forget.  We will only be exploring a very small portion of the cave but it will be some of my favorite parts.  You WILL GET WET to around waist level.

Rendezvous at the CPA.  We will carpool from there.  Any vehicle can make this trip...no SUV required.  Driver's will be appreciated.  Please post in the comments if you can drive and how many people you can take.  Please bring a change of clothes, a towel and something to put your muddy clothes in.  There will be an opportunity for you to change clothes before we get into the cars.

Great trip! Would have liked to venture to the back or gone down that side route, but either way, it was a very good first caving trip. In the future I'd like to see more difficult, longer, possibly over-night cave trips.

The CPA is the Center for Physical Activity on the ETSU main campus which is on N. State of Franklin in Johnson City. It is the building closest to Kroger ((greenwood dr). The building has a clock tower and a large brown climbing wall behind it. We usually meet in the parking lot to the side. If you have any problems finding it, feel free to give me a call at [masked]. If you live closer to bluff city, you can also give me a call and we will meet you closer to the cave if you would like
