First and foremost, I'd like to thank all of you who were able to come this past Thursday. It's always great to meet up with you and take part in some very intelligent and engaging conversation. I hope you all enjoyed the meetup as well.
The October meetup was a lot of fun, but we also took some time after eating to take care of some 'business', talking about an idea from Tina on something we could be doing as a group. In essence, her idea was that we could be doing projects together to offer members the opportunity to dabble in technologies that they are interested in, without having to go it alone. Everyone in attendance seemed to agree that it would be a worthwhile venture, and we eventually also added the possibility of doing development/technological work for charity organizations.
We'll have a few more logistics to work out before we can really set forth on doing some projects, but the good news is that you can help! I've created a new forum on the message boards for posting and discussing project ideas. If you have a programming language or environment you've been interested in trying out, an idea for a fun (and maybe original) project or know of an organization that could use a little help with their website, post it on that forum so we can all see your idea or tip. Next month's meetup will concentrate on picking one or two projects for the group to start with as well as what way we'd like to organize the projects.
Thanks again to everyone who attended the October Meetup, I'll look forward to seeing more of you in November.
