Raise a glass for Joe

Hey all -

I sent this out yesterday directly through the [address removed] email address and I have had some reports that it wasn't received, so I apologize if you have already received it, but I wanted to be sure it got out.
Over the years I have spent a lot of time and dragged a lot of members of both & the to my favorite dive bar Christina's Place because they are another part of my extended family (the part you get to choose). It's a diverse cross-section of people with more than a few geeks. Always great music and interesting conversation, and for me it included late-night ramblings with a sweet guy who we affectionately called Tattoo Joe.

Joe passed away yesterday afternoon after a month-long fight for his life. I was originally going to say 'struggle', but not for Joe. He fought.

Joe was a kind guy with an amazingly disarming smile. He took awhile to open up, but he made it worth the effort. He and his family have been through a tough time and in the spirit of the family that is Christina's Place, and in the spirit I am quite sure Joe would most appreciate, Christina's Place is hosting a gathering to help his family while we share our loss and swap stories.

Statement from Christina's Place: "A regular and a truly nice guy passed away yesterday. His name was Joe Kennedy. We called him Tattoo Joe. Anyone who would like to join use for a few Miller High Lifes, scratch lotto tickets and games of "Monkey Bash" on the touch screen is welcome to stop in tomorrow (11-18) at 7pm. We'd like to raise a few dollars to help his family."

I asked Jim how late it was going to go, and his response was "as late as we can." So, if you get thirsty tomorrow night, please stop by Christina's Place anytime. A word of warning... it tends to get to be 3am there a lot sooner than you think!

PS - has a meetup to see 2012 at the Kerasotes City North on Western for the 8pm show tomorrow night. Generally we choose a place close to the theater for a nightcap, so feel free to come to the movie, stop by the bar, or both.

In a related note, I am working on posting something I am grateful for every day on my Facebook (Not my idea, but a great one!) it seems like a lot of us are going through large struggles and changes these days. More than just the economy, it seems like far too many people are dealing with illness, physical or emotional attacks, job stress, etc., so I like the concept of focusing on the good, even for a moment.
So, I just wanted to say how grateful I personally am for the many wonderful people I have met through my various extended families. We all help each other with our strengths and our humor, and I am happy to celebrate the little bit of life I have shared with each person who has also taken the time to share a little geekiness and Guinness with me!
