What is one science site you have never visited but would like to?

The Olduvai Gorge

What is the most important problem today's science should solve?

Science should follow a path of curiosity. Pressing problems of the world must be solved by "problem champions": educators, entrepreneurs, policy makers, etc. who cultivate a dialogue with what science has discovered.

Who are your scientific heroes or role models?

To pick one, I am a recent admirer of S Chandrasekhar, from my home town of Madras, but also because of the beatific clarity of his understanding and the depth of emotion in the letters he wrote to his family members in India over his lifetime.

What turns you on about science?

Scientific knowledge is aesthetically beautiful. I actually have a first-hand role, however small, in revealing this beauty. Science is also rich with tools and institutions that are changing the way we live, everyday.

What are your favorite resources for keeping abreast of general science?

The Scientific American Magazine. Popular science books. Documentaries. Reddit forums.

Originally from Madras, I just finished my PhD on neuroimaging in Helsinki and moved to Chicago in the fall of 2012. Apart doing neuroscience with statistics, I'm interested in biographies, cities, human evolution, animated conversation.
