3D Printing Primer and The Maker Movement

  • Feb 12, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This month, the Chicago Web Pros. are invited to join C3—the Chicago Creative Coalition—to get a firsthand look at what is being called our generation's industrial revolution and "The Maker Movement." This new technology bridges the gap between the digital and physical world in 3 dimensions, and attendees will receive an introduction to the innovative ways objects are conceived, designed and produced.

Presenters:
Tom Burtonwood, (born Manchester, UK) is an artist and educator living and working in Chicago, IL. He teaches at Columbia College and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Burtonwood is a founding member of “The 3D Printer Experience” a hybrid makerspace /retail store in Chicago. In 2012 he participated in the Makerbot MET#3D Hackathon at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Burtonwood also co-founded Improbable Objects, a project to 3D print artist’s editions and multiples.

Holly Holmes is a Chicago based artist producing paintings, sculpture and installations that explore systems and architecture found in both nature and technology. Working in wood and ceramics she produces modular sculptures that mimic cell structures and organic forms. She currently teaches at SAIC and the Hyde Park Art Center.

Join us at Firecat Projects in Bucktown, 2124 N. Damen.

6-7PM- networking, food and drink (come hungry and thirsty!)

7PM - program on 3D printining which will be of special interest to graphic designers, illustrators, photographers and other creatives who have been working in a 2-dimensional world.

Chicago Web Pros. are invited to come for the C3 Member price of $10.

Incredible creative possibilities open up with 3dprinting. Tom and Holly had a most engaging presentation.

Hi there, given Boocoo's recent and unfortunate closure, is this event still happening?

Standby Elliott. We have some options I'd like to present to the group en mass.
