Meetups are organized gatherings of women and men with similar interests. Chicagoland Professionals Meetup has formed to provide an opportunity for local gay and lesbian professionals in Chicagoland to come together and socialize.

We hope it will open the door for networking and discussion with like-minded individuals in a safe environment that respects each individual. Current members come from diverse backgrounds such as law, sales, the healthcare industry and many more.

MEETUP GROUP DETAILS

We are currently active and organizing dinners, going out for drinks, organizing bowling, tennis, or other sporting events, etc. We are a new group so we need everyone's ideas as we begin. I encourage you to give the group a try. Once you join you can talk with our current members, read the message boards, and see if it's right for you.

Our group values privacy so it is a closed group, meaning that non-members cannot see our member list or list of events. There is an annual membership fee (only $5) to help with maintaining the cost of the site ($72 every six months paid by the organizer). If you cannot afford to pay your dues, don't let it stop you from joining the group, just donate when you are able. Individual events are most often free beyond the cost of the activity, although a few events have an event fee of a few dollars or so when raising additional funds or covering costs of supplies. Membership to this group is by approval only. Organizers try to screen for members with professional backgrounds who will be a good fit with the existing group, but don't let it deter you from giving it a try.

Make sure and fill out your application profile completely and include a proper first name and photo. The "profile" allows other members to get to know each of us a little better and our intentions for joining the group. Filling in the "Introduction" is a good way to begin instantly networking with other GLB professionals in our community. Post a photo and a simple statement of your occupation, and a little bit about yourself. It's a nice way for us all to get to know each other. Incomplete profiles often result in non-approval of application.

All events are organized by our individual members based upon their interests. Therefore there are no regularly scheduled events (e.g. every week). An event is posted to the calendar whenever a member volunteers to host one. Thus a vibrant group depends upon YOU. We hope you volunteer to host an event which you enjoy. Until you are ready to host an event yourself feel free to just join in the fun first. For each activity you have the opportunity to RSVP as 'yes' that you will attend an event or 'no' if you are not able to attend. The choice is yours but chances are you will enjoy yourself and meet interesting people in a relaxed atmosphere if you do.

ARE YOU A BUSINESS OR ORGANIZATION THAT WANTS TO REACH OUT TO OUR GROUP?

Frequently our group is contacted by businesses and organizations that want to tap the valuable cross-section of American demographics reflected in our group's membership. For example, restaurants have contacted us to offer our group a free party room at their establishment to hold one of our social dinners at a substantial per person pre-fix menu discount. This benefited the restaurant by exposing their business to a large new demographic of customers. In another example, a local comedy theatre offered us substantial discounts on one of their comedy shows in order to bring in new business and even set up a customized website so our members could purchase tickets. In still another example, a local politician's election organization offered to present information on their candidate (complete with snacks) in order to forward the candidate's election efforts.
