OpenGeoCle: postGIS is no joke!

Details

Come learn the basics about PostGIS (http://postgis.net/), an extension of PostgreSQL (http://www.postgresql.org/) that enables you to store geographic objects in a database!

With PostGIS (http://postgis.net/), you can retrieve, analyze, and edit geographic data. It also utilized in great mapping apps like Tilemill (http://www.mapbox.com/tilemill), Qgis, and cartodb (http://www.cartodb.com).

There will be interactive presentations, so you're encouraged to bring your laptop!

Ever had questions like: where I can find a list of all the roads names in Cleveland? How many Metroparks are within a 1 mile radius from my house? Where's the closest coffee shop? Learn how to answer these kinds of questions at scale with a PostGIS database.

All are welcome to attend.

Open Geo Cleveland is a resource for people to discuss and share knowledge on utilizing free geographic data sets especially OpenStreetMap, and Open geo-spatial software that manages, edits, and displays geographic data (especially as maps!) and advocate for its use in Northeast Ohio.
