Re: [humanism-174] What Is Freethought?

I know of a person who believes that Jesus Christ is his personal saviour, yet this same person does not believe in ID or creationism, and he does not believe in 90% of the dogma associated with Christianity... would this person be considered a Freethinker, to some degree?

No, they wouldn't be. However, the child of parents of whatever belief who said, using atheism only as an example, "we happen to think this and these are the reasons why, however, many other people subscribe to many other beliefs and if you would like to explore them we will not hesitate to give you a lift to the library or freeup your parental controls for related googles" now THAT child is likely to become a freethinker. As would be the child brought up and firmly believing one system who all on his own starts to question those beliefs.
