Re: [humanism-174] Rejection of scientific evidence because of dogma

btw, Ham and his band of fundaloons may actually be doing more to promote evolution simply by making statements that make them look like ignorant yokels.  Theirs is a particularly offensive and backward brand of "down in the holler" backwoods Christianity, more related to snake handling and speaking in tongues and faith healing than to any sort of modern religion.  Ham doesn't even realize how off the mark he is!

""The problem is that many believers often find a way to dismiss the evidence from those
experiments that conflict with their religious belief. Hence religion is founded on dogma." -- Randy Pelton

"Randy, you're wrong.  They won't dismiss the evidence, they will weave it into their belief structure.  Just as you did
in defining dogma." -- Mark Orel

Here is an example for you of one those Christians I mentioned, Ken Ham, doing precisely what you claimed Christian's don't do: rejecting evidence because their dogma tells them that their belief has to be right. Good luck finding in this comment anything that gives even a hint that Ham has woven the evidence into his belief system. This is an outright rejection of it.

Ken Ham posted the following on his website (

"As Christians, we need to have a mental security system where an alarm goes off when aspects of this anti-God religion are presented. Here’s what should happen when you hear or read the following:
  • Millions of years” should set off a mental buzzer that says, “warning—this is an attack on biblical authority—this is a buzz word to say there was no global Flood.”
  • Evolution” should set off a mental buzzer that says, “warning—this is an attack on biblical authority—this is a buzz word to say creation by God was wrong.”
  • Feathered dinosaurs” should set off another mental buzzer that says, “warning—an attack on biblical authority—this is a buzz word to say creation by God was wrong.”
According to the true history book of the universe—the Bible—birds were made on Day 5, and dinosaurs (which are land animals) were made on Day 6. So birds existed before dinosaurs. But evolutionists claim dinosaurs existedbefore birds!
