RE: [humanism-174] Ronald Reagan

Michael,

When “Lord” Reagan became president, I was only 19 and into girls, playing my guitar, and smoking pot. It wasn’t until around 1988 that I started to pay attention to politics. Reagan always seemed like a gigantic phony to me.

In retrospect, he did commit at least one unforgivable “sin”. He dismantled the Solar Energy Research Institute almost immediately after taking office- thus making the world safe for BIG OIL.

Below is a story from the PD from late ’05:

Okay, I was born in 1985, so I didn't get the chance to see what life was like before, during, and after Reagan's presidency.  Some of you guys did, though, so here are my questions:

Was Ronald Reagan a good president?

If you believe he was, why?

Do you feel he had a significant positive impact on our nation?

Do you feel he was responsible for our economic successes during the 1980's?

Do you feel he was as responsible for the fall of the Soviet Union as he is given credit for?

I have a lot of strong feelings on this subject, but I would very much like to hear what you guys have to say first.

Michael
