Hey cloudsters,

My friend Henri Binsztok (founder of the popular-among-facebook-devs OPA language) will be running a DevCamp with talks by Facebook and PlaceLoop. Here's the schedule:

1:00pm - Door opens. Snacks and drinks
1:15pm - Opa language crash course by Henri, original author
2:00pm - Lightning talks by Facebook's Julien Verlaguet, and PlaceLoop.com's François Soulard
2:30pm - 7pm - DevCamp begins. Contribute to one of the dozens of existing open source applications in Opa or just start a new project
7:00pm - Pizza!

Hi everybody. Thanks for participating in the first Opa DevCamp. I hope you enjoyed the day and were able to discover enough of Opa to give you a feel for it. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me directly at [masked]. If you have extra pictures from the event that you want to share, please send them to me or upload them here.

I wish you all Happy Holidays and will tell you where to get your next Opa t-shirt very soon ;)

I feel we should have given more organization to the hackathon. Simple things, like a virtual whiteboard where people could list what they were hacking on, an irc channel, etc. might have helped raise the energy level :)

Opa is very interesting language for web applications , as it circumvents many of the more glaring code and security issues of PHP. by offering more precise controls. The presentations and presenters (Henri, Alok, Julien ) were very informative and answered many of my questions about Opa (http://opalang.org ).

Henri from mlstate gave a very good presentation on the strengths of the Opa language. He spent considerable time answering questions about OPA after the talk, which was very helpful. The Facebook presentation on their internal use of OPA (toy applications) was much less interesting. I would have rather had the OPA presentation run longer and skipped the Facebook presentation. I suspect the Facebook was thrown in as a marketing ploy to draw more people. So be it. ;-)

Very friendly and informative. IT is always good when you get the definitive source to speak.

We'll try to record the presentations and put them online post-event.
