Automated Testing & Continuous Deployment for Mobile Apps with Jenkins

Abstract:

Mobile app development moves fast. The cloud offers instant and scalable infrastructure to test and deploy. To build and deliver at a pace that meets real world expectations, you need to implement a continuous build, test and deploy approach.

At this meetup, Jenkins/Hudson creator, Kohsuke Kawaguchi will explain how to leverage Jenkins to set up a continuous delivery pipeline and how the cloud augments this process. SOASTA’s SVP Engineering, Tal Broda, will show how to implement a 100% hands-off test automation framework with full app coverage – at no cost. You’ll see how to build and deploy your mobile apps in the cloud and let a Platform as a Service (PaaS) take care of scale, and how to ensure the highest app quality by testing thoroughly from back end services to front end performance. What could be better than free beer & pizza, mobile app dev, and continuous cloud delivery shared with some hard-core, high-speed development vets? See you there!

Bios:

Kohsuke Kawaguchi is the creator of Jenkins (née Hudson). He wrote the majority of Jenkins core single-handedly. He has over 10 years of extensive experience in software development, ranging from Java to C++, .NET to x64 assembly, as well as system expertise on different platforms including Windows, Linux and Solaris. This broad range of expertise was a key enabler in various advanced features of Jenkins. Aside from Jenkins, Kohsuke was involved in JAXB, Metro web services stack, GlassFish v3, and RELAX NG at Sun Microsystems. He's also known for a large number of open-source projects, such as args4j, YouDebug, com4j, Animal Sniffer, Sorcerer, wagon-svn, MSV, Parallel JUnit extension, to name a few. Today Kohsuke is an Elite Architect and Developer at CloudBees, where he spends his days bringing Jenkins to the cloud and making the Jenkins core even better.

Tal Broda brings 15 years experience to SOASTA as SVP of Engineering. Under Tal's leadership, the SOASTA CloudTest Engineering team releases products using continuous integration to address customer needs extremely fast. Prior to SOASTA, Tal was Oracle’s Development Director for the Oracle Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) product engineering team. Tal has 8 patents granted and 8 patents pending in the area of real-time business intelligence cloud computing, performance testing, mobile testing and analytics. Tal holds a BA in computer science from the Academic College of Tel-Aviv-Yaffo in Tel-Aviv, Israel, an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley and an MBA from Columbia Business School in New York City, with honors.

Will there be a recording of the event? I really, really, really want to be there, but there's just no way that I can make it. Had I known a couple of weeks further in advance, I could have changed my plans, but now that is impossible. ;-( ;-( ;-(

At the beginning of the meeting there was an excellent set of slides overviewing Jenkins (550+ plugins, 43k installations, etc.). Could those slides be made available? Thanks.
