Build a Cloud Day

Looking for more information about Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
and Platform as a Service (PaaS) clouds? We have two free events coming up shortly in the Bay Area for anyone interested in building their own IaaS and PaaS clouds.

The program is designed to expose attendees to the concepts and best practices around deploying cloud computing infrastructure.

Attendees should expect to learn how to deploy a cloud computing environment using CloudStack and other cloud infrastructure tools including those from Red Hat, Gluster, Puppet Labs, and Opscode that automate server and network configuration for building highly available cloud computing environments.

12:00 - 12:15 Welcome: Joe Brockmeier, Open Source Cloud Computing Evangelist, Citrix

Will kick off the event with a review of the program and short talk on cloud computing.

12:15 - 1:15 Delivering IaaS with CloudStack: David Nalley, Apache CloudStack

Apache CloudStack is arguably one of the most mature, frequently deployed IaaS platforms - having been used in multi-national public clouds, and private clouds scaling to tens of thousands of physical compute nodes, we ll look at considerations for deploying CloudStack and how to gain the most efficiency from your deployment.

1:15 - 2:15 Practice your Cloud-Fu with Scalr: Sebastian Stadil, CEO Scalr

Multi-cloud this! Orchestrate that! In this amazing presentation of Cloud-Fu, Sebastian Stadil, founder of the open source cloud management software Scalr, will demonstrate basic to advanced katas for building applications on the cloud that are resilient to pesky failures.

2:15 - 2:30 Break

2:30 - 3:30 Your Competitive Advantage in the Cloud - John M. Willis, EnStratus

As IT goes through a tectonic shift from cost center to profit center, the importance of IT operations is also being redefined. If you are primarily worried about uptime and server-to-admin ratios, you are already behind the times. Today s top performing operations professionals are obsessed with how they can enable the business to innovate quicker, react quicker to market and competitive demands, and scale up for the win. With a heathy doses of DevOps, Lean thinking, infrastructure as code, and open source tools like RunDeck, Puppet and Chef, these top performers are turning their operations from a necessary cost center into a strategic weapon.

3:30 - 4:30 Puppet Talk TBD

4:30 - 5:30 TBD

5:30 - 6:00 BACD Close

We ll close out the day a summary of the talks and group discussion.

Food will be provided, and seats are limited, so sign up today!

What are the prerequisites for this meetup? I am basically a Java developer wanting to learn/understand this technology. Can I follow this session?
