the energizer bunny going AWOL for a few months

Our plans for the fall may change as a result of my reduced availability to take the lead on organizing the events.I don't anticipate the date for the next CLS West unconference in January changing, but, there is a good chance that the Ignite currently scheduled for October 1st will slip to a later date this fall. If you would like to take a more active role in organizing our fall Ignite event or the unconference in January, this would be a good time to join the separate mailing list we use for event planning discussions:

Forwarded below is message about the current situation that went to the event planning list earlier.

Cheers, Van

This is a difficult message for me to send, but, I have no other choice. I lost my job at the end of July due to a layoff of half the staff at Krillion. There is actually a silver lining to my situation. I had been preparing to make a major career transition for some time now. My plan all along was to go after a paid position working with developer communities after Krillion. However, I didn't think I would be putting that plan into action until around the end of this year or early next year.

Given my current situation, I have decided to actively pursue a paid position in developer community work now. Although I have been voluntarily working with developer communities since 2003, this will be my first paid job in the field. So, it is taking a lot of my time/energy/focus to go after this kind of paid position for the first time in my career.

I thought I could still continue to be the CLS West energizer bunny despite my current situation, but, it is clear to me now that I can not. I'm hopeful that what we have done so far will inspire others to pitch in at this moment in time. I can still be a participant in organizing CLS West events, but, it is going to need to be a community effort to make our fall Ignite happen and to put together the second CLS West unconference next January. The good news is we have venue sponsors lined up for both events already.

I'm going to start separate discussions about both of these major future events and we can take it from there. I hate to reschedule the Ignite now that we finally have a venue confirmed for October 1st, but, I'm confident we could reschedule the same venue for a later date. It all depends on whether we can pull it together with only 3 weeks to go and that will depend a lot on the "we" involved.

That's All Folks, Van
