SF Coderetreat

We are looking for developers of any age, of any skill level who know at least the basics of one programming language.  We will spend the day pair programming on Conway's Game of Life.

San Francisco Coderetreat is a single day (9:30 am - 6:30 pm) where developers challenge themselves while they pair program with other like-minded people. We will have an hour in the morning for participants to get to know each other and then everyone will be split off into pairs. Each participant will change partners every 45 minutes and with the start of each new session, any previous code will be deleted.

We will have over 60 countries participating in this Global Coderetreat event!  Our goal is to have each participant go away with more refined programming skills and with new friends.

Just remember to bring yourself, your laptop and anything else that will help you get in the zone!

As we do not have enough funding at this time to pay for lunch, attendees will have an extra long lunch break to procure their food. Take this time to get to know your fellow attendees and bond at local hot spots!

We are accepting small donations to help fund the event - if you would like to donate, please contact us.

I enjoyed the opportunity, the people, and the event in general. However, I left the event somewhat disappointed. When I got home I realized I didn't actually attend a code-retreat, but a Game of Life coding contest.

In between each session the question was always, "How many people got a working game?" when it should have been "How many people wrote the perfect code?" This emphasis on getting a working version of the game shifted the room's focus from "perfect code" to "working game".

I'm happy to say that by the end of the day I completed my task -- getting a working "Game of Life". Unfortunately, I had accomplished the wrong task.

Even though I felt the theme was slightly off-track, it was still a great experience, thanks again.

The format was great: it makes you do new things RIGHTNOW, so you learn stuff really fast. I had tons of fun!
