SPIRITUALLY INDEPENDENT LESBIANS - BOOK STUDY

Rev. Stacie will facilitate an ongoing book study the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month - 7-8:30pm.

Coming Out Spiritually by Christian de la Huerta is an exploration of what it is to be gay and spiritual in a wide variety of ways. He not only draws on traditions new and old, East and West, such as, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Sufism, Taoism, Wicca and Muslim, but does so through the perspective of queer voices. He will also introduce us to spiritual practices to assist in deepening our connection with the Divine and ourselves. It is an antidote to the old paradigm of separatism and connecting to the new paradigm of oneness.

He presents these ideas in four parts:

I. Ten roles or archetypes sexually-fluid and gay people have fulfilled.

II. The importance of the 'inner journey' through a variety of spiritual practices, such as, meditation, yoga, breath work etc.

III. Healthy sexuality placed in a spiritual context.

IV. Returning to the market place by exploring ways to be a beneficial presence, contributing and making a difference in the world.

In addition, he includes a quick guide to the world's religions and their attitudes toward homosexuality.

The format of the group is open and dynamic. Each gathering will stand on its own. There is no need to read the book in advance. Participants will be invited to read aloud, paragraph by paragraph, allowing discussion to take place as comments and questions arise.

Facilitator: Rev. Stacie Buda, a newly licensed Common Ground Minister with an Interfaith Ministerial license from Emerson Institute of Theological Studies. Common Ground is an integral spiritual community honoring all paths to God whose vision is to Embrace Humanity and Express Divinity. We are open and inclusive. For the past several years through her internship Rev. Stacie has fulfilled a supporting role to Rev. Judy and Rev. Glenda by coordinating the Sunday Selfless Service team, special services and created an InReach Support Program. She is also a Reiki Master and facilitates an Eckhart Tolle book study.
