NY Composers Meetup-CONCERT! - from Preston

Details
Hi Everyone,
Great News! Well over two dozen people have signed up to perform on our upcoming New York Composers Meetup Concert at The Cell Theater. This is excellent!
But, clearly we won’t have enough time to get to everyone in one show! Therefore, we will do a series of at least two or three concerts—one on November 19, and one in January or February—in order to accommodate everyone.
What did JFK say?
Oh yeah, “Ask not what your meetup can do for you, ask what you can do for your meetup!” Maybe that’s not exactly what he said. But, that is what I ask of you all as we take on this very cool project. I’ll need your help, cooperation and understanding as we go.
Please volunteer to help. If we pool our efforts it will go better for everyone.
The Plan
Below are the names of composers who have signed up. Please email information to me on your tech requirements, instrumentation, etc. (See below.) Then I’ll curate the first show taking into consideration the music, tech and logistics. We will probably get to only about 6 to 8 composers per concert.
Time Limit
30 minutes per composer is the maximum total time budget per composer. Please limit your music to about 15-20 minutes max, and allow 10 minutes for setup/teardown!
NB: Some of you have already made arrangements for musicians to perform your music on November 19. I know who you are, and I’ll do my best to keep you on that show.
Once I’ve heard from all of you, I’ll post the composers and order on the Meetup site, and send everyone an email confirmation.

Equipment at the Theater
The Cell Theater has the following equipment:
• Grand piano
• PA system to mic vocals and acoustic instruments. They have a few mics. If you need specific mics, bring your own.
• A DVD player for video/audio playback
NOTE: You must bring your own amps for guitars, keyboards, etc.
Requirements list from you
Please email me (pstahly@aol.com) with answers to the following questions:
- What instruments will you use?
- Is your music strictly acoustic? If so, what instruments?
- Will you be using electric instruments and amps? Be specific.
- How many musicians will you have performing on stage at one time?
- How many vocalists, how many instrumentalists at the same time?
- Will you require audio playback (tracks) with your act?
- Will you require video playback (DVD) with your act?
- What other technical requirements do you have?
- What is the total duration of your music? (i.e. three pieces = 16 minutes)
Please get this information to me by Wednesday, November 3.
Cost: $20
It ain’t the Tada! Theater. The Cell Theater is a beautiful performance space with sound, video, lighting and tech people, all of which costs money.
$20 will be charged per person for this opportunity.
Hired help
If you are hiring non-meetup players to perform your music, they don’t have to pay the $20 meetup charge.
This is your concert.
Please encourage your friends to come and support your art and this group. I love the community this Meetup has created. If we all pitch in together we’ll have something very, very cool.
All best,
Preston
