In case you haven't noticed, I've had to raise the meetup fee to $15 starting this Friday. Frankly, there are a number of reasons that have led me to do this. Most importantly, my costs have gone up.
We're actually in the room over 4 hours because of set-up and tear-down/clean-up. I know you guys want to get your music played, and I'll go overtime to do it. Also, I'm buying wine and snacks and have travel/transport costs. But, wine, snacks, travel and transport have not gone down over the past few years. So, it comes down to simple math. I have to cover my costs.
Having said that, I still feel the meetup represents a GREAT value and opportunity for people. Countless numbers of you have told me how important it is to play your music for others, get feedback, and hear what other people are doing.
I don't know of many places where you can walk in and get the same quality of attention, feedback and networking on a session by session basis. (Usually you have to enroll in a series of classes at a much, much higher price.)
Truth is, where else in this town can you go for an evening, get a glass of wine, hang out/network with great people, get your music played, and get quality critical feedback for $15?
Please let me know what you think about this. Drop me an email. I'm open to ideas and want your feedback.
