Last year, Lucas (https://twitter.com/#!/cardmagic) had an idea for a product. He created a basic splash page with a signup form and posted it to HackerNews. The next day he had 800 signups.

Fast forward a year, PHPFog (http://www.phpfog.com) has thousands of users (with over 13,000 more on the waiting list), $1.8M in funding and a huge supply of startup tales to tell (both exciting and challenging).

We're still working out details on Lucas' talk but if my previous conversations with him are an indicator I'm certain he'll have lots of insights to share. One of the most interesting was his view on building startups: Lucas sees the web like the old west. It's a gold rush and spots are limited. You need to quickly erect a facade and stake your claim. Don't think: Act, Launch, Ship. If you wait too long and quietly plan for all the possibilities, someone else will already be there when you get around to launching.
