The Experience

The Showcase is a convention style event that provides tables for the various showcasing startups, and gives attendees an opportunity to network and meet the founders of Cincinnati’s up and coming small tech businesses.

Breakouts

Continuous Web is not only for those who have already taken the founder’s leap, but also for those who are thinking about building a startup in the future. The showcase breakouts are designed to germinate our startup community with wisdom from regional experts on a variety of topics. Attendees will choose the breakouts that interest them most and they feel will help them get to the next level.

Showcase

Okay, so this is the bread and butter of the day. Each participating startup will have 5-7 minutes to pitch their business to a panel of judges, receive immediate feedback, brief Q&A from other attendees, and have an opportunity to win some prizes from various sponsors. It's an exciting opportunity for founders and viewers as these new businesses go on the chopping block.

Judges

Bill Cunningham, Greater Cincinnati Venture Association

Dov Rosenberg, Allos Ventures

Tarek Kamil, Entrepreneur

Keith Johnson, Entrepreneur

Brian Beeler, Queen City Angels

Keynotes

Throughout the day there will be two keynote speakers, breaking up the showcase nicely with some inspiring talks from national and regional startup gurus.

9:45am

Bob Gilbreath: "Everything I Know About Investing I Learned in Vegas"

Both investors and founders know that startups are a gamble--as they go into every new opportunity with knowledge that the odds are long, but the potential payout large. The process of launching a startup and seeking funding feels like a high stakes bet, with established rules and biases. Unfortunately, most investors have mimicked the roulette wheel in their decision-making, the game with the longest odds and least strategy in the house. But a new model is forming as investors work harder to select startups and coach them throughout the process. It's a model closer to Blackjack, and similarly comes with a much higher rate of return. Bob Gilbreath describes his recent journey to the investor side and some of the tools that he and others have developed to improve the odds of startup success.

Bob's Bio: After launching new products at Procter & Gamble and successfully selling his digital advertising agency, Bridge Worldwide, to WPP last year, Bob Gilbreath is the most recent hire at CincyTech, one of the region's largest venture investors and startup supporters. He also is the founder of the Minimum Viable Concept Test, a tool that brings a quantitative research model to digital consumer services. Bob is the author of The Next Evolution of Marketing: Connect with your Customers by Marketing with Meaning.
