We will have the following talks:
- "Fieldnotes from a post-mortem debugging experience: Intersecting ELF and
C++ implementation details to find a haystack" by Peter Edwards (15 min)
Abstract: With a product from a long time ago on a customer's
premises far far away, there was a core file produced in production due
to a memory leak. Using the symbolic information from the executables,
and the fact that many objects used virtual functions, we could get an
approximate histogram of the various types of live objects that
existed within the core at the time it died.
- "Libc-less C" by Vlad Hanciuta (30 min)
Abstract: Is main() the real entry point of your program? Join our adventures in ELF-land to find out the answer. In this talk we'll explore what the C runtime and libc do behind the scenes and the Linux ABI interface and we'll implement together a "Hello, World!" program that doesn't require any libraries.
This event will be as informal as possible and we'll have some pizza and beer to help everyone enjoy the evening and socialize. Please feel free to interrupt the speakers if you have any questions.
Thanks Arista for offering to host us!
