Is having the Android SDK and a Java development environment installed a prerequisite? If so, perhaps there is a tutorial on the best way to get these things installed. I'm using NetBeans and/or Brackets for development. I think I have maven and gradle for build tools. Are these things necessary? I'm familiar with Java development but I have no experience building Android Apps.

PS: I've used PhoneGap, but that is hardly the same thing.

You definitely need Java before installing the SDK, and Android Studio packages gradle, maven, and the Android SDK together - I would definitely recommend it over eclipse!

It seems the ADT bundle includes everything you need for development. http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

Sorry for the late response, I would recommend downloading Android Studio and Genymotion: http://createatcooper... since those are the latest tools from Google.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
