SPEAKER BIOGRAPHYGary Brunell
Gary Brunell is a member of IBM's North American Hadoop and Spark Evangelist team responsible for developing and deploying assets used to promote the use and maturation of the open source Apache Spark Project inside and outside of IBM. Gary joined this team after spending 10 years as the Data Security, Compliance, and Optimization leader for the IBM North America Information Governance Practice. In this role, he was responsible for: Architecture design and implementation of enterprise data and information life cycle management, as well as related data privacy and governance solutions. Gary has over 30 years’ experience in the design, development, and implementation of complex application and data management technologies. He has been involved with a number of leading-edge technology companies where he held various leadership positions in Research and Development, Sales, Marketing, Technical Support, Professional Services, and Management. Gary is an IBM Certified “Thought Leader” and was certified by the Open Group as a “Distinguished IT Specialist”. Mr. Brunell has authored books, papers, holds a patent in automated software testing, and is a frequent speaker at executive briefings and industry events, Gary earned his engineering credentials from the University of Illinois.
