Using MariaDB and GridGain for Database Scaling
Every growing open source project eventually hits the same question: does this data belong in a single relational engine, or does it need to spread across a cluster? This talk gives developers a practical framework for answering that question, using two concrete, open source technologies as anchors: MariaDB, the mature, MySQL-compatible relational database, and GridGain, a distributed SQL and in-memory compute platform built on Apache Ignite.
We'll walk through what each model actually guarantees — ACID transactions and vertical scaling on one side, horizontal partitioning and tunable consistency on the other — and translate that into concrete signals you can check against your own project: write volume, failure tolerance requirements, query complexity, and team velocity. A side-by-side comparison and a simple decision path replace abstract trade-off discussions with a checklist you can apply immediately.SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY
