Joomla! Special Interest Group

Hi all,

Kevin and I were wondering if there would be any interest among the Open Source Group at starting a Joomla! Special Interest Group. This would be separate from the monthly Open Source meeting and would be open to all but be geared to specific discussions on using the Joomla! Open Source Content Management System (CMS) to build websites. We would be looking for people with Joomla! expertise to lead and/or mentor the group and answer questions. If you would be interested in joining or helping to mentor a group like this, please reply to this e-mail. If you know of anyone using Joomla! that could help out, that would be great as well. Possible topics for the group would include:

  • Setting up a Joomla! Website
  • Web Hosting & Backups
  • Dos and don'ts of Joomla! development
  • Good plugins to use
  • Online Communities
  • Security
  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Ajax or Flash/Flex integration
  • Templates (How to find them and/or build them)
  • How to build a custom component
  • Other topics of interest to the group

If there is enough interest, we can discuss when and where would be most beneficial to the group.

Regards,

Gary
