About Us:
NY Cultural Tech expanded its focus since 2013 to more broadly delve into the innovative intersection of tech and culture.  We explore tech-driven evolution in microcultures that rely on digital information and experience...NYCT started out as a cross-disciplinary group for practicing technologists (coders, developers, info-architects) concentrating on the advancement of emerging tech from within the domains of public knowledge.  Our larger participatory group is a new-media catalyst for pros who want to improve aspects of mainstream culture through museums, educational institutions, libraries, government, non-profits, or for-profits that exchange data of benefit to the public.

What we do:
We meet quarterly to share what new media is worth playing with, to learn from one another, and to enjoy likeminded professionals after work. These are relaxed collaborative get-togethers often limited to 50 members.  We encourage everyone to bring their laptops and their imaginations, as we pool the brightest minds from across disciplines to refine existing ideas and execute new ones.

What we're into:
information architecture (ontologies, taxonomies, metadata), Internet software and systems development, Web design, UI, UX, programming, data-mining, database management, and other information exchange technologies

We host three basic types of events:

  • Socials: where we all get together under one roof, talk shop, and make toasts
  • Education Intensives: where we all get together to learn something
  • Project labs: where we all get together and work on a specific project

We're 457 Cultural Innovators

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
