New York City Czech and Slovak Meetup was founded by Holt Golatz and began to hold its first successful meetings in the winter of 2004. Originally founded as New York City Czech Meetup, we later merged with our friends New York City Slovak Meetup to form by "velvet" marriage, The New York City Czech and Slovak Meetup Group in 2006.
Some of our members have been regularly attending since 2004, although we welcome new members every month. We are a good mix of Czech and Slovak born residents and visitors, Americans with family, marriage or work connections to the Czech Republic or Slovakia, as well as language students.
Our gatherings are entirely social without any agenda other than to meet up with old and new friends, speak or listen to Czech or Slovak language, and possibly drink a good pilsner. Both Czech, Slovak and English is spoken at our table!
We like to meet at the Bohemian Hall Beer Garden in the warmer months when the Garden area is open. In the colder months, we retreat to various bars in Manhattan which promise us a large table and cheap pilsner.
We hope you'll join us!
