Hello everyone,

Our first coding dojo is past and it looks it wasn't our last! We coded together a very basic web app stub inserting a link (with a description) to a database. You may find the result at https://github.com/ksmutny/scala-link. (I have cleansed the code a bit so the imports are much clearer. Those who attended know:) Everyone touched the keyboard and contributed to the app. And that's what coding dojo is all about.

A couple of observations from retrospective we conducted at the very end:

  • Next time we'll plan the work a bit in advance so everyone would know what would be coded next (e.g. a ORM, test or web form) so anyone could choose to be a driver who knows how to code and be more guiding than guided.
  • Every technology area must be covered by at least one dojo participant who prepares in advance and learns the others while driving (instead of googling:).
  • A notebook keyboard is not exactly a productivity booster.

See you at the next dojo! Once we conduct a couple more dojos and get used to Play! and surrounding technologies there would a Scala hackaton!

Your organizers!
