Hello Fellow Scribes,
In our last meeting, had a great discussion about conflict, and turning an internal conflict into something tangible for the audience. The assignment for last time which was to watch the shaving scene from the movie "It's a Gift" In addition we discussed the movie "Man with the Golden Arm" which is available on streaming Netflix. If you have not seen this movie, I would recommend it, especially looking at the internal and external conflicts of the Frank Sinatra character. Also watch how the stakes are raised over and over again for this character. (and this is a great performance by Sinatra, perhaps his best as an actor)
If you have not already done so, please do the exercise that I gave you on formatting, especially if you have not yet begun to write in format. I want to take a look and make sure you all understand the various elements, or if we should take some more time to go over it.
Our next meeting will be April 14th @ 1:30. We will be discussing characters, and how to start developing them
Assignment -
Please watch LA Confidential and Lars and the Real Girl- available on Netflix by mail or on Amazon Prime. Also you can check the NYPL which has availabilty of both movies at certain locations.
Please do the formatting exercise.
If anyone would like to turn in some work, please let me know and I will get it out for the group.
Keep Writing,
Jacquie
PS - Some of you inquired about writing instruction. The last class I took was thru gotham writing and the instructor is Michael Eldridge. I would highly recommend him if you are interested in taking a formal screenwriting class. Gotham is giving free sample classes next week and Michael is giving 2 of them in case you want to check him out. Here is the link;

He is very nice and approachable. If you go, tell him I send my greetings.
